What Are Sun Outages and How Do They Affect Your TV Service?

Twice a year, usually around the beginning of spring and fall, there’s a slight chance that you could experience a brief disruption in your TV service. These interruptions, known as sun outages, occur when the sun lines up directly behind satellites used to deliver TV signals. During this time, the sun’s powerful energy interferes with the satellite signals, causing temporary loss of picture, pixelation, or even audio distortion.
When Do Sun Outages Happen?
Sun outages typically occur during a two-week period in March and October and usually last only a few minutes each day. The exact time and duration depend on your location and the satellite you’re receiving signals from, but the interruptions are usually minor and short-lived.
What Can You Do About It?
Unfortunately, sun outages are a natural phenomenon, and there isn’t much that can be done to prevent them. However, the good news is that these disruptions only last a few minutes and happen at specific times of the year. You can simply wait for the sun to pass out of alignment with the satellite, and your Blue Stream Fiber services will return to normal.
As your dedicated service provider, we want to keep you informed about any potential interruptions so that you’re prepared. If you notice temporary signal loss during the sun outage periods, rest assured that it’s a normal occurrence, and your service will be back to its best shortly.
