WiFi Troubleshooting Tips from Our Online Learning Hub

Your WiFi is the backbone of your online experience, whether you're streaming movies, attending virtual meetings, or scrolling through social media. At Blue Stream Fiber, we understand that occasional hiccups outside of our control can happen, so we're sharing a few troubleshooting tips from our Online Learning Hub to help you get back online quickly and seamlessly.

Restart Your Modem for a Fresh Start

A quick restart can resolve many connectivity issues. Simply unplug your modem from the power source, wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in. This clears temporary glitches and refreshes your connection to ensure optimal performance.

Let WiFi Pods Do Their Job

If you’re using WiFi pods to extend your signal, avoid relocating them from where our technicians place them. They’re trained to find the perfect spots to maximize the signal and coverage in your home, so frequent movement can disrupt their ability to maintain a stable connection.

Understand Your Modem’s Indicator Lights

Blinking or colored lights on your modem can signal different issues. If the receive light is blinking, then that indicates an issue. Here’s what you can do to troubleshoot this:

  • Check all the cables and make sure they are secure.
  • Unplug the power cord from the modem, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Wait a few minutes for the power, send, receive, and online lights to go steady.

Know How to Connect a Cable Modem to Your Computer

If you're troubleshooting connection issues or need faster speeds without interference from a router or WiFi, connecting your cable modem directly to your computer is a great solution. Before proceeding, make sure that the following is set up:

  • Your coaxial cable is securely connected from the cable outlet to the modem.
  • The modem’s power adapter is plugged into a wall outlet, and the modem is powered on.

If everything is in place, simply connect your PC by plugging the Ethernet cable* into the back of the modem, and then plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your PC.

*Only use Ethernet or USB cables; not both. For more information on connecting using USB, please reference the modem’s driver disc.
