Due to recent technology updates, you do not NEED a Google email or Google account for your installation. However, it is recommended to be able to access the 5000+ apps on the Google Play Store, Google Music, and Google Games right on your Set-Top box.
Explore below for details on when you might need a Google Account vs. when you might not!
Features available WITHOUT a Google Account:
- Use your voice remote
- Access 5 popular video streaming apps:
• Netflix
• Amazon Prime Video
• Disney+
• Pluto
• YouTube - Use Google Assistant
Additional features available WITH a Google Account:
- Download additional apps from the Google Play Store like Hulu, HBO Max, Paramount+, etc.
Additional helpful hints:
- When setting up a Google account, you can use any email (Yahoo, AOL,
etc.) to establish the account. You do not need a Google Account at installation unless you want to download and access the Google Play Store to get apps not preloaded on the set-top box. - You can create a Google Account after installation too. Once created, it’s
an easy 5-step process to link a Google Account to your Blue Stream
Fiber TV service right on the set-top box, and our Tech Support team is
available to talk you through the process over the phone.
Yes. TiVo makes accessing your streaming service subscriptions to things like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video super easy. You can search, discover and access content from those services. However, please note that in order to view that programming, you must have your own separate subscription to those services.
The Google Play store gives you access to over 5,000 apps. You can download and use any of those apps that you would like. In addition, you will have a fully integrated experience with 7 popular streaming apps. This means you can use your Voice Remote to search, discover, play and set up a OnePass for all the content available on those apps. The following are the apps that provide a fully integrated experience:
- Hulu
- Netflix
- Amazon Prime Video
- Vudu
- Disney+
- HBO Max
- Starz
The advanced technology of streaming TV utilizes the internet to deliver your Blue Stream TV service. When you watch Blue Stream TV, the experience is much like when you watch a show on Netflix or a video on YouTube. In order to align the streams in both rooms to be exactly the same, they would have needed to begin streaming at the very exact moment. If you are experiencing an echo effect, we recommend you channel up and down on both TVs at the same time in an attempt to get them in sync. This may help alleviate the issue.
This will happen if you do not press and hold the OK Button long enough. The best and proper way to ensure you are able to use Start Over is to:
- Find the show or movie in the Guide that you want to Start Over
- Be sure the Green Arrow/Start Over icon is displayed next to what you want to watch. If there is no green arrow icon, that show or movie is not something you can Start Over from the beginning.
- If the Start Over icon is present, press and hold the OK Button
- A screen will pop up with multiple options. It will default to Watch now from BlueStream SoCU. Press OK Button and your program will then start from the beginning.
No. Much like when you use a Fire TV Stick or a Smart TV or even your Smart Phone, purchases you make on apps like Vudu or Amazon Prime or Google Play Movies are in-app purchases that will require you to set up an account with a credit card. Those charges are separate from your Blue Stream TV service and billing. In addition, any purchases of movies or shows done with these apps will be yours to keep and accessible to you even if you are no longer a Blue Stream customer in the future.
Yes. All purchases made within the Blue Stream On Demand library will be billed directly to you as part of your Blue Stream bill.
Yes. Although the Showtime Anytime App is available to use on your set-top box, the Showtime Anytime App is not yet fully integrated with the Blue Stream TV service. We are working to make that a future enhancement. In the meantime, you can still have access to all that great content. Until it is fully integrated, here’s what to do to watch all the Showtime Anytime programming that is exclusively available on the Showtime Anytime App:
- Download and install the Showtime Anytime App from the Google Play Store
- Follow the onscreen instructions and log-in with your Blue Stream WTVE credentials that you received during your installation
- Each time you would like to watch anything from the Showtime Anytime App, press the TiVo Button, navigate over to Apps and open up Showtime Anytime.
The Blue Stream Fiber TV App can be used on Amazon Fire TV Sticks and mobile devices like phones and tablets. Our service is not currently available on Apple TV or Roku. The Blue Stream Fiber TV App is available on Smart TVs that support operating systems and devices: Android 2.3 and higher.
Blue Stream Fiber’s current live TV channel resolutions are 720p and 1080p and vary by each channel. In addition, the TiVo set-top box provided by Blue Stream Fiber for TV service supports up to 4K resolution. As a best practice, residents are encouraged to set their TV to vivid, enhanced, or dynamic mode to ensure the best possible watching experience. The Blue Stream Fiber installation team can help you to adjust these settings on your TV.
Live TV
Yes.
Yes. Your Set-Top box will remember where you left off.
Try using the Start Over feature. On many shows, when you turn to a show that is currently airing, you’ll see the Start Over/Catch Up icon and an on-screen tip telling you to press and hold OK/SELECT to start the show from the beginning.
Recording/OnePass
All of your recorded shows are found in My Shows.
Yes! Just set up a OnePass. A OnePass gathers every available episode of a series (whether streaming, broadcast TV, or on demand), every game or match from a specific team, or every sporting event in a league and adds them right to My Shows to watch instantly.
As many as you like!
This depends on your service plan.
If you set up a recording when your storage space is almost full, you’ll receive a message on your Set-Top box. At that point, you can upgrade to a plan with more storage, or you can delete some of your recordings to free some space. When you reach your storage limit, your Set-Top box will begin deleting your oldest recordings to make space for new ones.
Parental Controls
Parental Controls help you make sure your family has access to only those shows you want them to watch. When you turn Parental Controls on, you’ll set a PIN that will be required to watch shows exceeding the limits you set. From the Home screen, Menu > Settings > Parental Controls. See Parental Controls.
Remote Control
The remote is set up and paired to your Set-Top box during installation. If your remote stops working, try replacing the batteries. If that doesn’t solve the problem, try re-pairing the remote with the Set-Top box by pressing and holding the TiVo button and BACK buttons simultaneously until the activity light illuminates. Release the buttons; the activity light will flash slowly, then flash quickly five times.
Thanks to the power of Google, you can use your Voice Remote to tune directly to nearly all Blue Stream’s channel lineup. However, because Google has broader search capacity beyond just TV service, there are a small number of premium movie channels you may have difficulty using the Voice option to directly tune.
If you experience a difficulty tuning to one of these channels, you can overcome this by doing a manual search. To do this:
- Press the TiVo Button
- Use the Right Arrow Button to navigate over to SEARCH & Press OK
- Manually type in the name of the channel you are looking for
- When it appears, select the channel and press OK. This will bring you to that channel
*SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT MUSIC CHANNELS: To use Voice to tune to one of the Stingray Music Channels (Channels 501 – 550), Say Stingray before the name of the channel. Example: “Stingray Jazz Masters”
